Interstellar starts and establishes something that can happen and is real , but for me tried to shift towards more fiction ("magic") while still hanging on to the fact that it is real. One argument could be had is whatever humans do not know is "magic" to them but I think it could have been tied more closely or laid out as a foundation at the start of the movie like Nolan did in Inception where "entering into someone's dreams" was possible in a world he created from the beginning.
The visuals are spectacular and no one can deny that. I was reading that Christopher built real sets and spaceships (as he usually does) which added to the awesomeness. And you cannot deny that the acting was superb with talent all across. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck all do a wonderful job.
This is not usually the case with Nolan movies but I felt the background sound got too noisy for me to hear the dialogue which was another negative point.
I do appreciate the fact that Nolan gave it all in this film. He tried to make it as much about science and love and how they are related. And that's where the confusion arises perhaps and why its difficult to comprehend. There is a lot of science that could be proved incorrect because of the movie trying to ground itself to reality and fifth dimension "love". I also admire that Nolan made a original film worth $165 million which I am sure is not easy these days. All of the latest big budget movies are adapted and mostly comic book based.
The reason for this movie to not come out as good could be that we are not prepared to imagine what is outside an extremely unexplored phenomena like a black hole or time. This brings me to one other positive from the movie. No matter
of all the hardships mankind faces, the movie believes that humans should never stop exploring as who knows what you might find and achieve. And that is I think what "they" should believe as well.
PS. You will get the "they" reference if you watch the movie.
