The last of the Hobbit trilogy and seemingly the last of Middle Earth stories is finally on screen. I liked the movie but if I were to compare with all the other Hobbit installments, the first one was my favorite. And, in my opinion, the Hobbit movies are no where near the LOTR films. First thing I would like to get out of the way is that I will never watch a movie in High Frame Rate henceforth. I gave all the three Hobbit films a chance but I always felt that I am being taken out of the story which is well told by Peter Jackson. I watched the other movies in my personal computer and definitely enjoyed a bit more than the theater. I would suggest to definitely watch the movie in theaters to enjoy the spectacular scenery, great armies, and huge battle scenes. And this leads me to the second negative about the movie. The sprawling view aside, the characters especially Orcs looked a bit too much CGI. Somehow, I found the Orcs in LOTR more scarier. Peter Jackson does take this movie to a grander scale to finish off the Hobbit and Middle Earth sagas in a spectacular fashion. The old timers i.e. Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett (though for very little time) do an excellent job. Martin Freeman once again shone as Bilbo and he has been a standout performer for me in all of the three movies along with Richard Armitage who depicted the internal struggles of Thorin to perfection. Even though the title says Hobbit, the whole trilogy seemed to be a story of him from his quest to reclaim his kingdom to his turn to greed for the "cursed" gold of Misty Mountain to ultimately his redemption.
Peter Jackson changes the story of the Hobbit book to tie it with the start of LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring which I did not mind. I also admire the enthusiasm and ambition of Jackson to say goodbye to Middle Earth on this note.
