Rosewater Movie Review

The daily show's Jon Stewart's directorial debut is a quality work adapting the memoirs of Maziar Bahari to the big screen. Stewart makes a swift transition from satirical comedy to a serious story even though you can fill tinge of his comedic style on the movie that brings some light hearted moments. It's a story of the power of hope and belief. Maziar was arrested in Iran in 2009 for being a US spy after giving an interview with co-incidentally the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" that jokingly suggested Maziar to be spy. The strange incarceration of Bahari as a result of this seemingly harmless interview (infact funny) just shows the duality of the world and which is portrayed so well in the movie. And from this moment is where Maziar finds his strength to not give up and hope for his eventual freedom. The story is truly inspiring and both the director and the actors, Gael Garcia (playing Maziar) and Kim Bodnia (playing "Rosewater") did a wonderful job. The negative points about the movie would be the sound effects and music which I did not care a lot about. Another point that might and should not be considered a negative is that this feels more like a documentary than a cinematic movie.

My View: A must watch.
