The biggest comic con is back again and I am not once again not attending it. Not by choice I might add. I just never got a chance. I know you have to seize your opportunity but I will tell you there are other factors that count i.e time, money, luck to name a few. Now, with my excuses aside, I was never interested in comic cons before and that is partly because I was never introduced to the idea of people dressing up as comic book characters or just US comic books in general. When I was in India, I read Indian comics and they were great but there was no such convention at that time. My exposure to US comic book characters was through reading short comic strips in daily newspapers for Garth, Archie, Peanuts, Garfield etc. I think I remember the first big US comic book characters I was introduced to were the X-Men and Spiderman through their TV cartoons. The X-Men show wasn't good at all after looking at it with a non-kid eye but Spiderman was great. Around the same time, I was also watching the Batman cartoon (which was awesome. I especially liked its soundtrack) and had the misfortune of also watching Batman and Robin movie. I think that was why Spiderman had an edge over him for me at the time. I never took Batman seriously. And then in 2002, the Spiderman movie came out and it was so much fun. Spiderman was my super hero while the Bruce Wayne in me had not found his Batman. So yes, I consider Spiderman to be my first favorite superhero movie. Some years have passed since then and I am a full fledged Batman fan. And I know it wasn't just the Nolan movies that made this happen (although they did reinforce my belief in him) but something just clicked. Inspired by the Spiderman movie, I watched the Michael Keaton Batman movie and I think that might have played a part in me liking Batman. I used to draw Batman drawings in any sheet of paper I could find (well not just him but it was definitely more of Batman). This was truly the time that comic book movies were beginning to be great with X-Men also having success. I also started reading some US comic books as well around this time although Harry Potter occupied most of my time. I truly got to know the comic book fandom after I came to US in 2009 and having lived here for 2 years. People dressing up as comic book characters with a costume they took the time to make with not a worry in the world. It was such a great experience. Then I came to know about these comic cons and the biggest of them all, the SDCC, that I have been following since and I wish to attend it some day. I recently attended Washington DC Comic Con known as Awesome Con which was a wonderful experience.
As far as what I am looking forwards in this year's comic con. Batman v Superman news is top of the pile and then everything else.
