Ferris Bueller's Day Off Movie Review

I got around to seeing this movie through a recommendation from a Youtube movie show. Here is my review. This is an innocent teen comedy that tells the story of Ferris Bueller, a high school student, who takes a day off from school, and either knowingly or unknowingly, helps his best friend in gaining confidence and self-respect and stand up to his father. The movie released in 1986 and after watching I immediately thought of how the world has changed since then. I cannot imagine movies like these being made today. Most of such comedies today would most probably involve drugs, sex etc just because that's the world we live in today where such topics are more prominent.

The film also serves as a travelogue for Chicago as Ferris's (Matthew Broderick) idea of escaping involves taking Cameron (Alan Ruck) and his girlfriend Sloane (the beautiful Mia Sara) on a hop on hop off ride exploring Chicago with stops at various landmarks and places like Sears Tower, a French restaurant, Art Institute, Board of Trade etc. The movie also has fun with Ferris coming up with innovating solutions to keep hiding from his father, mother, the hell-bent-on-destroying-Ferris school Dean and his sister. Ferris makes Cameron realize that an expensive Ferrari is worth crashing in order to stand up to his father and have a straight talk about life and also a day off is worth taking because "Life goes by so fast, that if don't stop and look around, you might miss it".

This is the first movie I saw directed by John Hughes. I can see somewhat how the new Spiderman movie might look now (Have to think about it). But this movie, although simplistic with not so much to think about was still a sweet, mischievous and fun. Also, a side note: the breaking of fourth wall in the movie was amusing and another fun addition and the end credits scene kills it.
