Trainwreck Movie Review

The name of this movie has nothing to do with the quality so do go ahead and watch it. Amy Schumer's writing debut is great and might be the best Judd Apatow directed movie in a long time. Amy also stars in the film as Amy, whose life has not been going great at all and is constantly falling into deep end of chaos to which she is completed oblivious to during the first half of the movie pushing it aside as an excuse for freedom. She comes to her senses when she meets a sports doctor in Aaron Conners, played by Bill Hader. Aaron is the one person who actually has chemistry with Amy and wants to know more about her than one night stands. Thereafter, the movie is about Amy's finding of a new meaning of life through Aaron and her sister, Kim, played by Brie Larson.

I love Brie Larson in almost anything right now. She was great in Scott Pilgrim vs the world movie where I first watched her and everything I have seen her in since then (short term 12 is in my list of movies to watch). And my god, Tilda Swinton knows how to disappear, in a character that is. I failed to recognize her for a good few minutes. She was very good as Amy's boss at the men's magazine where she works. She played the Meryl Streep like character from Devil Wears Prada. Bill Hader has sold me as an actor from his last two movies I watched. This and the Skeleton Twins. He portrayed a kind, caring, likable and yet confident (and not a stereotypical geeky guy usually shown on film) Aaron really well. His chemistry with Amy worked great and Amy herself shone. This is still her first movie and she (for the most part) in the movie played Amy Schumer so I will reserve my judgement.

Definitely not a laugh out loud comedy but a comedy with a story to it so overall, a fun movie to watch.
