Inglourious Basterds Movie Review

I recently watched this movie a second time. And since I have been writing these reviews lately I thought why not do it for this one. It definitely deserves to be written about.

When this movie came out, it might have been the first movie I ever saw directed/written by Quentin Tarantino and he definitely had a great first impression that he has sustained on me as I am sure he has had on many others. Filled with gore as is expected from Quentin, Basterds never appears gross throughout and the killings serve the purpose of the story wonderfully.

The movie imagines a World War 2 scenario where Hitler and plans to kill him do exist with the exception that they are executed successfully and by a imaginary group of American Jewish soldiers called (you might have guessed it), the Basterds and a theater owner with a personal history with the Nazi especially Coln. Hans played brilliantly by Christoph Waltz. The US soldiers are led by Lt. Aldo played by Brad Pitt who hatches a plan to kill Hitler and all the German Nazis through information from a German actress double agent Bridget (played by Diane Kruger) by blowing up the very same French theater owned by Shosanna played by the beautiful Melanie Laurent.

Despite the fun of the movie, Quentin does get in some emotional and sad moments like when a grown up Shosanna meets Coln Hans and remembers her family's unapologetic and cruel murderer. It is these moments that make you take the film seriously which is why it was nominated for an Academy Award. The movie is entertaining and well paced from start to finish and never has a dull moment that I think Django Unchained had which is why I liked Inglourious more. I forgot to mention Michael Fassbender does an amazing British accent who has to play a German soldier. I also learnt some of the German hand gestures after watching the movie so that's nice :)

A must-watch.
