Everest Movie Review

Everest is a real life inspired story about mountain climbers and the tragedy they encountered in 1996 while climbing the ultimate beast, the Mount (you guessed it). I think it is fair to say this movie is not about one person even though it might feel that way but about a whole group of people and the profession and/or hobby they have. The story and character is not something that got me like it did with some of the other real life stories like Titanic and it is predictable. But, the cinematography (even when viewing on my monitor) was the most positive and beautiful aspect of this film. The wide spread views of the giant mountain gives you glimpses of both the natural beauty and the fear it inhabits within itself. Naturally, the major props will go to Salvatore Totino, and what he did best in my opinion is to show nature in true and not mask it with additional colors. I can only imagine how amazing this movie would have looked on the big screen. The director, Baltasar Kormákur did his job as well.

On an ending note, the movie did make me wonder once again as to why as human beings we try to after something so dangerous and proven to be life threatening. "I have kids. They see a regular guy can follow impossible dreams, maybe they'll do the same" as said by one of the characters. The question is isn't there difference between dangerous and inspiring?
