Star Wars The Force Awakens SPOILERS Review

This will have some SPOILERS.

This movie is a nice one in general but if you are a Star Wars fan should please even more. I would give a lot of credit to the whole team behind this one as I felt they really cared about making this one for the fans of Star Wars and doing the mythology justice.

John Boyega plays the Stormtrooper Finn who dismisses working for the evil First Order and joins Rey, played by the most impressive (for me) Daisy Ridley to deliver the cutest droid BB-8 who has a hidden map containing the whereabouts of a certain Luke Skywalker who has vanished after an unfortunate incident in a Jedi Temple. Along the way we meet the familiar old guard of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia, R2-D2, C3PO, and finally yes Luke. In fact, Carrie Fisher was the weakest link out of all the characters in my opinion. Maybe its because she hasn't been acting in some time.

The movie takes you back in the good days of the originals and the old characters also look like they wanted to be there while the new ones were great. As I said before Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver (playing Kylo Ren) impressed me the most especially Daisy considering she is very much a newcomer. She definitely has a bright future ahead. The way she handled the force was satisfying.  I had a slight grudge with General Hucks (played by Domhnall Gleeson) who seemed to not command too much fear as the character he was meant to be but he was not terrible. Oscar Issac was amazing as I have to expect of him. If you haven't seen Inside Llewyn Davis, give it a watch. The most fun for me was the humor in this film from every character was to the point and never cheesy. And finally, the action was just breath taking to watch.

Some minor negatives for me were the supreme leader Snoke who felt more like he could belong in a lord of the rings world but he only appeared as a hologram and his role was minimal. We will know more about him in future films. The soundtrack didn't appeal to me and I had very high hopes since John Williams was returning but the only music that hit me were when they played from the originals.  I also was a bit confused about the death of Han Solo and how little it affected Leia but they might explore this in other movies.

Overall Review: A must watch. Fan or not this is an excellent movie but fans will enjoy this the most with its resemblance to the New Hope. I do feel this movie would be even more enjoyable when looked back as part of the whole trilogy.
