I will be watching Episode VII tomorrow and I have totally immersed myself into the hype. It has mostly been because of watching other people getting so emotional about it on TV or around me. There is a sense of community with Star Wars that is unlike I have ever seen before especially in the United States and it is exciting and heart warming to see how it brings people together.
Some might categorize this as being partisan and I would agree to that and it is not a bad thing. I would encourage people to follow it even more as the joy you get watching the genuine happiness of other people is definitely worth experiencing. Trust me, you will help yourself.
Now, talking about the movies, as a child I never watched the Star Wars original trilogy and so it never left as much of an imprint on me and I watched the prequels which even then didn't appeal to me apart from the special effects. And in anticipation of the new movie, I tried watching them again and it still does not appeal to me or as I know to many people. There are so many hilarious dialogues and moments for a movie that is not comedy. And then I compare that to the originals and there is a marked difference. I could still see the weaknesses in those, but for that time in late 70s and early 80s, there is so much going for the movies than against them. Some of the dialogues were still childish but the focus on character building and art design and of course the soundtrack are the things I admire the most about the originals.
And so carrying that hope, I expect the seventh installment to continue doing that and more so the people who have such memories associated with Star Wars get their share of almost child like passion and excitement and joy back.
