Amelie is a comedy with some drama about an innocent and simple girl (you know the name) who tries to help the people around here through unusual acts of kindness in her own innocent way. They are all very enjoyable to watch even if they are not always bound to succeed. In some ways, this movie reminded me of the innocence and creativity of Home Alone. While doing so, Amélie struggles in her own personal quest to meet the love of her life, Nino.
The director Jean-Pierre Jeunet successfully captures a sense of mystery through the eyes of both Amélie and the streets of Paris. Both combine well to keep you as an audience captivated and feeling joyful all along. I did get frustrated by Amélie problems and her being too creative and innocent for her own good but I can relate to that myself. Audrey Tautou is excellent in portraying the emotions of this girl through very expressive eyes and general demeanor. She carries the movie well on her shoulders. The cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel and music by Yann Tiersen perfectly complete the movie's puzzle and I do think if all these factors do not combine well, this movie is a tough task. It is a credit to this cast and crew that they make the movie itself look so simple.
A very charming and sweet movie that you should watch if you are embarking into watching international films. Also, is it weird that I find myself asking some of the silly questions that she does? Haha. Enough said.
See you in the next post.
