This film felt a little more like an action focused movie rather which was different from the spy-action awesomeness of Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum. Having exposed Operation Blackbriar, Bourne now uncovers even more secrets only this time his actions are guided by personal reasons and motivation to take revenge for his father's death. The movie starts in a similar vein with Jason struggling with vague memories about himself which also include his father. As the film progresses, he uncovers the true identity of his father, Richard Webb and his involvement with the government to create the Treadstone program. The movie then goes into a revenge tale of Jason trying to find peace with himself by taking revenge for his father's murder at the hands of the FBI.
The best moments in the movie are when Jason is doing the quiet, one-punch take down, using the limited resources around him stuff which has always been his appeal according to me. The action was good but it did not add anything to an amazing character. The story revolves in the post-Snowden era with questions raised about security over privacy but it felt disjointed from the actual Bourne storyline. The elements that made the story were all interesting, just not cohesive. Matt Damon slots right into character and it never felt like he was returning after a long time. The directing and camera work (Barry Ackroyd ) did feel jarring at times with some quick moving shots that gave me headaches and I couldn't figure out what was actually happening on screen at times. Alicia Vikander was excellent in the movie but I did not get her intentions throughout. Vincent Cassel was also great as an assassin for another one of the government's secret program, Ironhand. The music is good throughout and is one the good parts of the film.
Overall, it's nothing like the old but you might still enjoy it, just for Jason Bourne coming back to what he does best.
