Kubo and the Two Strings is a sweet, sad, and magical tale of a young boy, Kubo and his journey to find his story. He uses magic to tell stories to the people but his own story begins when his mother sacrifice to save him leads him on a quest to find a magical suit of armor that can protect and help him fight a vengeful spirit from the past, his grandfather Moon King who despised his mother for loving a mortal.
The story by Shannon Tindle and Mark Haimes is a complex yet engaging one and the director, Travis Knight combines so well with his team of animators to tell this story with animation that is a visual masterpiece. It combined so well with the emotion of the movie and its characters and so did the music. I was interested throughout except for a little phase in the middle where I felt the pace was lagging when the characters spent a bit too long contemplating without really going anywhere. The film does get dark and is most likely an adult movie in my opinion with some elements that kids can enjoy. Some of the shots will make you wonder if you are in a Harry Potter world, while others appear like Middle Earth while at some point it felt like it was Star Wars inspired. All of the things I love.
I know I was eating up this movie from start to finish. It made me look at videos online about how this movie was made and it shows such an amazing job that everyone involved in this movie accomplished. Kudos to these people and hope they can achieve greater success.
