Moana Movie Review

I finally got around to watching this movie (as a birthday gift from some friends). Moana is the story of a young girl from Hawaii who goes on the journey to find the demi God Maui to remove the curse that had struck her island. Its directed by Ron Clements, John Musker, Chris Williams and Don Hall and features voices from Dwayne Johnson, Auli'i Cravalho as the main characters.

First and foremost, the animation from Disney once again is top notch. This film is so colorful, you cannot help but fall in love with the waters, the greens, the mountains, and nature as a whole. The character of Moana is very well fleshed out through the songs featured in the movie. It does play to its advantage that her story is told from an absolute start of her as a child to being a fully grown teenager. Talking about songs, all of them might feel like normal sentences said with a tone but they are so fun to hear. Personally, I like the one sung by The Rock the best.

The animators deserve a lot of praise for everything in this movie. Both the computer and especially the hand drawn ones for Maui's tattoos were beautiful. I admit a few of the songs did feel out of place. Maybe it's just me growing older. I am sure kids loved it. :)

Its not my best animated movie of the year. That title belongs to Kubo and the Two Strings but Moana is a fun adventure nonetheless.
