Get Out Review

I cannot remember having more fun this short year in a movie theater than I had with this one. Get Out is a gripping thriller, comedy and most of all an exciting hard to explain movie. The fact that Jordan Peele and his crew were able to make this into a cohesive movie with substance speaks volumes to their abilities. I can see Jordan Peele's career just sky rocketing after watching what he did with this film.

If I try to explain, it's a story about a white girl who goes to her family back home over the weekend to have them meet her black boyfriend and things turn weird and creepy. Yes, that is how I described the movie. You have seen this much in the trailers and I do not want to spoil anything else for you. You have to see it for yourself.  The music (Michael Abels) was as amazing as the cinematography (Toby Oliver) in the movie. There were extreme close-up camera shots which showed the fear and weirdness in people's faces which was thrilling and somewhat uncomfortable at times but in a good way. Both Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams are excellent as the young inter racial couple. The way Daniel portrays emotions just with his eyes in some scenes is a sight to behold. Allison too portrays the shifts in character story over the course of the movie very well. All the other side actors gelled as a well-oiled machine. Aside from it's engaging story, the movie is also thought provoking and manages to creep you out and without any jump-scares which I appreciated (Not that anything is wrong with those). It was a horror but I could still watch it without getting scared and yet feeling unsettling excitement.

To think that this Jordan's directorial debut, the expertise that he shows in the scenes with tense moments is admirable and I am looking forward to what he does next.

I believe this movie will get a range of emotions out of you. Definitely a must watch.
