Spiderman: Homecoming Review [Spoilers]

I am just coming back from watching this movie so thoughts are quite fresh in my mind. This may or may not work well for the review but I am doing it anyway.

This latest reboot of Spiderman brings him back to his high school days in how he was originally depicted in comics. Neither of the films or tv shows before showed him as the teenage kid and even if they did Tobey Maguire certainly did not look like a teenager (I did enjoy those movies a lot too). So now that origin is sorted, how does this movie fare?

The story is of Peter trying his best to prove himself to Tony Stark as a future Avenger and in his eagerness creates problems for himself (aka the Vulture played brilliantly by Michael Keaton) which after getting rejected by Tony, he has to figure out on his own. The director Jon Watts did a great job of balancing out the problems that Peter faces as a teenager in school and as a super hero in a very entertaining way. You could see the inspiration of John Hughes style movie making with a very visible nod to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Tom Holland as Peter and as the superhero is amazing. He is an engaging and charming actor and I was excited when he was cast after I saw what he did in "The Impossible". Michael Keaton is terrifyingly good all because of his acting prowess. I could also feel some nods to Sony's first Spiderman movies especially the scene when Vulture's daughter turns out to be Peter's crush Liz. All of the supporting cast played their part well from Peter's best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) to Michelle (Zendaya). Also, I always had this question as to how Spiderman would fare in places with no tall building and this movie answers that question and does so in a pretty fun way! :)  The other best part and perhaps the most important was how two different studios came together to make this amazing movie. I was a little surprised at the start to see the Sony logo but then came to appreciate the magnitude of what was done between these two major studios.

Now on to the negatives. The music was not too engaging apart from the opening credits where the TV show theme was modified and used by Michael Giacchino. Zendaya's character reveal was very underwhelming and made no sense in my opinion. Vulture was a good villain but his back story was not too compelling even  after all the reasons he gave as to why he did what he did. And I have read about this from few other people and I would agree in that I did not like the modifications made to the Spidey suit. The character is engaging and powerful enough to not need extra Tony Stark add ons but then again he is a teenager and he needs all help he can get. Maybe in future, they will get rid of those adjustments.

Watch out for 2 end credit scenes and the final one is hilarious! You will enjoy it.

Fun Fact: Spiderman used to be favorite superhero until Batman took over.
