The Big Sick Movie Review

The Big Sick is a real life (almost) adaptation of stand up comic Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily's life story of how how they ended up being together. And it is such a great love story told which is sincerely funny and emotional. Art imitates life is something you could apply to this movie verbatim. Life is so complex that the most funny moments and most emotional moments come out of it if you have the creativity to put it into words and thats what Kumail and Emily did along with the director Michael Showalter.

I liked how the film expertly handles some of the sensitive topics going around in today's world but the most fun I had was watching the lead characters chemistry. Both Kumail (playing Kumail) and Zoe Kazan (playing Emily) bounced off each other so well. The collision of cultures that these two represented was a sight to behold on the screen and all the side characters also performed their part honestly. The film flowed so well from one scene to another and never looked to be slowing down or pacing up. I honestly cannot remember a movie so honest that made me laugh so much in the theaters in recent memory.

I don't think I have many negatives. The only one I can think was some of the emotional parts for a fleeting moment didn't engage me from Kumail but then got me right back in the film. Also, the ending felt like a movie ending. I am not sure if that is how it happened in actual life with Kumail.

Other than that, an excellent movie!

Rating: 10/10 based on the sheer enjoyment I had
