War for the Planet of the Apes Review

So here we are, the trilogy is done! Caesar's journey comes to a conclusion in a beautiful story and I honestly think this is one the best (if not the) trilogies in recent years and when we look back in a few years time as to what was achieved through these films, I wouldn't be surprised if it is heralded as the one of the best of all time.
War starts with humans led by the Colonel (Woody Harrelson) with some help from the ape traitors attacking Caesar's hideout and in one of these attempts killing his wife and the older child. Caesar then goes on a revenge mission to kill the Colonel. As the story progresses, Caesar grows in stature as a character and displays the "humanity" that we expect from the humans.

Matt Reeves directs this movie brilliantly bringing forth all the emotions through the performance of the amazing Andy Serkis. And these emotions don't feel forced on you and are as a result of what is happening in that particular moment of the film. The side characters all play their part and I cannot remember one of them being out of place, yes, even the Dobby-like ape. I am mesmerized by what these film makers have achieved through motion capture and gotten better at it progressively. The music by Michael Giacchino adds to the scenes and so does the cinematography by Michael Seresin which is beautiful. I also loved how unpredictable the movie was. There were moments where I thought one thing was going to happen and then it didn't which was great to watch and kept me sticking to my seat (moving around a bit with anticipation :)). One such moment was where I thought Caesar was going to die in the middle of a battle but credit to filmmakers once again for bringing his story full circle by giving him the chance to see his species live on.

Some of the minor things I liked less (there was seriously nothing to dislike) was how the natural disaster at the end happened at quite an opportune moment and also a scene in the film where a girl went through a whole ape security undetected. Also, some of the things they showed in trailers was not really in the film. But that is all.
