It's still surprising sometimes to think how far Marvel Cinematic Universe has come. The heads over there now get to call on Taika Waititi with this new Thor installment and he definitely instills his unique brand of filmmaking into this one.
The movie follows Thor in his quest to rescue Asgard from the reign of Hela, the goddess of death after she sends both Thor and Loki out to an remote planet called Sicar who is ruled by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) who captures warriors and organizes the contest of champions amongst them. Here, Thor finds Hulk and after duking it out a little, come together to form the "Revengers" with Valkyrie (Tessa Thomson).
The comedic element in this film slightly edges the action, both of which are in abundance and I found myself laughing loudly in the theater multiple times. The humor is also very organic and not forced. The interaction between Thor and Hulk brought a lot of funny moments. Cate Blanchett was just brilliant as she always is but she looked and played an amazing villain in this one. If she is dead, I wish she wasn't as it could have played into Thanos's obsession with death in the comics for the Infinity War movies. Perhaps, that's wishful thinking. Valkyrie's character was brilliantly played by the actor but she did feel out of place amongst these people with amazing abilities. It would have been nice for her to be given a cool scene. The coolest scene she was in involved a flashback which was somewhat of a shame. I also felt Thor and Loki's chemistry wasn't quite at the same level as earlier films and that could be because of Hulk's introduction. Oh I forgot, Waititi's also voices a character called Korg who is hilarious.
This movie, overall, is an extremely fun time at the movie theater.
