I did not really enter this movie with high expectations and it was the correct choice. I wasn't blown away by the film. The best part of the movie was certainly the acting performances of Emma Stone and Steve Carell. Emma dives into this role with utmost authenticity and sincereness. The intended comedy works well and does not take away from the seriousness of the matter being discussed.
The backstory and struggles of both Riggs and primarily Billie Jean King could have been explored even further to really make me invest in her story the way directors clearly and admiringly wanted to tell. So the story remains on the surface.
Overall this was an okay film.
