Coco Review

I think this will be only animated movie I see this year and I am so happy that it is this one. Coco is a story set in Mexico during the Dia De Los Muertos about a young boy, Miguel who loves music but is forbidden from it by his family but ventures into a journey to discover his passion regardless. The film is ultimately about the same old but powerful tale about love and family but this does not take away from how good this movie makes you feel which defines its quality in my opinion.
The music blends so well with the movie and is its best part along with the trademark Disney/Pixar animation which is just amazing to look at. The Mexican festival is portrayed with so many colors it does overwhelm you in a good way. If I think about it now, the film reminded me of how similar some of the world cultures are in terms of what the traditions and the values they celebrate. Coming back to music, I will be listening to the songs in the movie for some time now. I appreciate how much thought Pixar put into this movie and even though I am not a Mexican, its no surprise this one is doing so well there. All the major characters have layers and an emotional arc to them. The ending is a happy one but the moment before it gets you.

I did see one of the twist in the movie coming long before the end but that did not stop me from having a lot of fun watching. I wouldn't put this one among Pixar's best but animated movies do not usually get me. Last year it was Kubo and the Two Strings and Coco would be the one for me this year.

Anyways, I am going now to hum some songs. Un Poco Loco.
