The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Review

I am not new to the Lord of the Rings movies; I just wanted to revisit them. It is, however, my first time writing a review about it. I just finished watching the first of the three films (extended edition, of course). I had a lot of fun again, and the story itself is so captivating. Peter Jackson does an excellent job bringing it to life on screen. One part I didn't particularly like was some of the shots during the prologue, where Sauron is depicted as a gigantic figure shoving people away with ease. I can blame my imagination, shaped by reading the book, for that. I always envisioned Sauron as more human-like, possessing the abilities of the Great Deceiver and an evil sorcerer. Ian McKellen's portrayal of Gandalf was the standout for me; he perfectly captures the character's wisdom and gravitas. The music is iconic, and I remember it even before I started rewatching this movie. It’s amazing how some techniques that I didn’t pay much attention to as a kid are more noticea

Avengers: Endgame Review

I have seen this two times and have enjoyed it both times. My points I collected from watching this movie: More personal even if you see the world at an end, feels more personal to the superheroes than saving the world Black Widow death spoilt for me so affected me less I think  Jeremy Renner and Scarlet Johansson play their relationship really well.  Captain Marvel’s screen time was perfect for me and personally I feel her movie after Endgame would have been more perfect to start the next phase of MCU. I am in love with Brie Larson and her new Captain Marvel look in this movie The rat in the movie is the true hero getting Ant Man out of the quantum realm Tony Stark’s perfecting the time travel physics could have used more background (yes I know there is a lot to pack) Above all, even with the plot holes in the movie, this movie felt like a perfect culmination to this amazing universe that Marvel Studios built starting from Iron Man in 2008. Thor’s belly a

Captain Marvel Review

This movie just starts with the right note. The tribute to Stan Lee in the intro was very good. Brie Larson as Carol Danvers was great portraying the power and strength that comes with the character excellently. Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull leader Talos was the best apart from Brie in my opinion. He plays the humor of the character well. The chemistry between Brie and Samuel L. Jackson was great and I bought into their friendship. The origin story, however, felt rushed to me and could have been fleshed out more than just short flashbacks that felt rushed. There are other movies that have done similar style of story telling but still take more time with the flashbacks by having more interactions between characters. I would have liked that. I also wanted to more of Phil Coulson but I can appreciate the movie focusing all its energy on Carol. This is after all one the strongest superhero in the MCU. The final action sequence with Carol in her full energy avatar flying around destroyi

The Lego Movie 2 : The Second Part Review

The sequel to the Lego Movie (and the fourth in Lego franchise) is not as entertaining as the first one but is still a fun watch. I will say, the songs in this movie (no matter how literally they sing them) will never compare to "Everything is awesome" to me! Phil Lord and Chris Miller take over just the writing duties for this one and hand over the direction to Mike Mitchell. The primary voice cast is the same with Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks once again doing an amazing job as Emmet and Lucy respectively. Chris Pratt also voices a future version of himself who basically feels like a fun reminder of all his previous movie roles. As expected, there are a lot of cameos and they are really funny. The movie does well to integrate the latest from WB pop culture. Jason Momoa's "my man" never gets old. The story is less interesting than the first one and the song and dance sequences got a little too much for me so I think the movie could have been short by a f

Aquaman Review

James Wan directs this jumbled up superhero origin story of Arthur Curry aka the Aquaman and I had fun watching this movie. Don't get me wrong. There are a few annoying things about the film primarily the one of the villain's (Black Manta) moustache twirling expressions and the repetitions of some action sequences like the sudden explosions happening in the middle of a conversation. The story wasn't focused on a lot of character building for all the major characters but I was entertained enough by the spectacle to not worry too much about it. The soundtrack was not a memorable part as much, not like the epic ones I remember from Man of Steel or Wonder Woman. Also, the music was weirdly placed at certain points which took me slightly away from the story arc going on. The action sequences were excellently shot and I enjoyed all the unique ways James directed those scenes. The underwater scenes were also enjoyable. I thought Mera (Amber Heard) stole the show in terms of a

Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse Review

Before I was the Dark Knight's fan, I was a Spiderman fan. This movie is everything Spiderman I could have asked for. It introduces us to our new Spiderman, Miles Morales who becomes a hero by the end of the movie with the help of some friendly-alternate-dimension Spider people. And it is a fun adventure! First of all, the animation style is breathtaking to watch on the big screen. I have a feeling it will look even better in 3D. It is like a comic book frame come to life page by page. Kudos to all the film crew for out of the box thinking. And on top off that, everything that comes with the movie is just as good be it the music, action, story and emotion. And even with the seemingly confusing concept, it was not hard at all to understand except perhaps one piece involving Gwen Stacy's appearance in Miles's life. All the voice actors are perfectly cast starting with Miles (Shameik Moore) and Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) to basically everyone. Nicholas Cage, John Mulaney
